Property visit – 5 tips to succeed it

      blog JANUARY 1, 2021

As time goes by, you will be confronted to change. Your habits, your income and your lifestyle will shift over the years. Your living environment should reflect these changes. That is why many people start shopping for a new house. It is impossible to buy a house without first paying it a visit. As a matter of fact, when it comes to buying or renting a new property, it is important to first visit it. In this article, I will be giving you some advice on how to efficiently visit a new property.

It is all about preparing your visit

A house viewing starts before actually showing up to the appointment. Take the time to properly consult the listing information, look at the photos and note the number of rooms in the house. According to your needs, it could be useful to establish the number of bathrooms you may need, or if you would like a backyard. Do not forget that you are not only shopping for a house, but for a lifestyle too!

      Make a good impression

Set the right tone with the owner by being polite and friendly. Keep in mind that you will need to work together for the selling or the purchase of the property. As buyers, we firmly encourage you to imagine the house without its current decoration while visiting. Remember that it will not be there once the property is yours.

Bring a paper and a pen to the property’s viewing

This may sound ridiculous but having a paper and a pen at hand will be useful. You will be able to note the important details. We recommend that you print the house’s listing information so that you can refer to it during the visit. Do not hesitate to take photos with your cell phone to document the viewing.

      Ask the right questions

As mentioned above, you are not only shopping for a property, but also a lifestyle. By asking the right questions, you will ensure that you are making an informed choice and preventing bad surprises. Below are some examples of questions to ask while viewing a house.

      Questions about the property

      • In what year was the house built?
      • What do you think of the house’s insulation?
      • Do the installations meet the standards of the district?

Questions about the condition of the house

      • Are there any mold or humidity problems?
      • Has any damage whatsoever occurred in the last few years?
      • Was there any work done on the property?

      Questions about the neighbourhood

      • Is the neighbourhood quiet?
      • Is there any trouble with the neighbours?
      • What are the schools nearby?
      • Is there a metro station nearby?
